MapBiomas Brasil provides this information through its MapBiomas Water Collection 3. These data helped confirm that biomes have been suffering from a loss of water surface area since 2000, with the 2010s being the most critical decade.

Brazil's water surface area was below average in 2023.

Information like this helps provide a more complete picture of what we are facing in all regions of the country and should serve as a basis for decision-making in the fight against climate emergencies.
